Gamescom is, of course, one of the biggest games industry events on the calendar. There’s loads to look forward to - a huge show floor packed with playable games and more industry news and announcements than you can shake a stick at.

But what’s got us most excited about this year’s event? We asked a few of the Portal team for their thoughts, hopes and predictions.

Josh

“This will be my first visit to Gamescom so I’m mostly looking forward to seeing what it’s all about. I’m planning on meeting up with some of our partners, chatting with new faces and, hopefully, getting a quick look at the show floor. I’m told it’s epic!”

Elouise

“I’m a massive fan of MMORPGs. Classic World of Warcraft is my all time favourite game and I played a lot of New World when it came out a couple of years ago. I’d love to see a new RPG announced along those lines. If not, I’ll happily take Stray 2.”

Andy

“Mario Kart is my bag, there’s a reason I’m the office champ. Nintendo are back at Gamescom for the first time in a while. I’m hoping that means we’ll see Mario Kart 9. Surely we’ve waited long enough!”

Tom

“The prospect of hardware news is the thing that excites me most about the big industry events. And while I don’t think anyone expects a PlayStation 6 or Xbox Series follow-up, it’s possible that we’ll see something on the rumoured PlayStation handheld or, whisper it, Switch 2. Sony aren’t exhibiting at Gamescom but they are planning a live stream showcase around the same time. Could we see something there?”

Dean

“I’m heading to Cologne for my usual Gamescom visit. I’m a dab hand at it these days so you’ll find me at The Corkonian and Steakhouse Ponchos - the places you spend all year saying you won’t end up in, but still do.”

Those are our thoughts, but what about you? What’s got you champing at the bit for Gamescom 2023? Follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram and let us know.

You can also tell us in person. Josh and Dean are both heading out to Cologne this year so if you’d like to meet them to chat about your upcoming marketing campaigns or just enjoy a beer and bratwurst together - get in touch.
